Granite, Quartz, Porcelain & Marble Edge Profiles.

Choosing the right edge profile
The right edge profile is about more than just aesthetics, it’s about comfort, safety, and long-term durability. At Unique Stone Surfaces, we precision-cut every edge to match your vision, whether you prefer a crisp modern line, a decorative classic, or a soft, rounded finish.

Quartz, Granite, and Marble Edging
While intricate profiles like the Ogee or Waterfall look stunning on Quartz and Granite, the best choice often depends on the specific slab.

  • Natural Stone Characteristics: Some marbles and granites are more "open-grained" or brittle.
  • Fabrication Pressure: High-pressure fabrication on fragile stones can lead to micro-chipping.
  • Our Recommendation: To ensure the highest quality, we may recommend simpler profiles for particularly delicate natural stones to maintain the structural integrity of your worktop.

Specialist Advice for Porcelain Surfaces
For Porcelain worktops, we generally recommend a Standard Bevel or a Mitred Edge. There are two key reasons for this:

  • Slim Profiles: Porcelain slabs are typically thinner than traditional 20mm or 30mm stone, providing less surface area for deep, decorative carving.
  • Surface Patterns: Unlike "through-body" stones like Quartz, Porcelain designs are often digitally printed on the surface. A complex rounded edge can reveal the plain ceramic core, breaking the visual flow of the veining.

A clean, beveled edge ensures your Porcelain worktop remains sleek, contemporary, and cohesive with your kitchen design.

FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS

Straight and mitred edges are currently the most popular modern options for minimalist and luxury kitchens. They create a clean, seamless look that highlights the stone's pattern.

For households with children, we highly recommend rounded edges like Pencil Round or Full Bullnose. These profiles eliminate sharp corners, making the kitchen safer and reducing the risk of accidental bumps.

Most quartz and granite slabs can accommodate any profile. However, thinner materials like 12mm porcelain or very fragile natural marbles may be limited to simpler profiles like bevel or mitred edges to maintain structural integrity.

Absolutely. A popular trend is to use a more intricate decorative edge (like Ogee) for the kitchen island as a focal point, while keeping the perimeter worktops simpler with a standard pencil or bevel edge.

Yes, intricate profiles like Dupont or Ogee require more labor-intensive fabrication and specialized tooling. Standard edges like bevel and pencil round are typically included in basic pricing.
